Firecracker Pretzel Rods.
I love the 4th of July. The fireworks, the red-white-and-blue everything, the cookouts, the sunshine... and of course, the snacks! And let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than showing up to a backyard barbecue with something cute, colorful and super easy to make.
That’s where these Firecracker Pretzel Sticks come in. They’re the perfect treat for any summer get-together and my go-to when I want to add a pop of color (and crunch!) to the party.
4th of July Pretzel Sticks.
These pretzel sparklers are seriously one of my go-to party snacks, especially when I’m short on time. They use simple ingredients and come together in under an hour.
They’re a guaranteed hit, and you can totally customize them for any holiday (I’ve done green and gold for St. Paddy’s Day, orange and purple for Halloween, you get the idea).
And if you’ve got kids around, this is such a fun way to get them involved in the kitchen. Let them dip and sprinkle their own pretzels for a fun, edible 4th of July craft activity. It’s so much fun, and they’ll love getting messy with the sprinkles!
These are also a great snack to display on your dessert table. I’ve stuck them in a mason jar like candy sparklers right on the table, wrapped them individually in clear treat bags for easy party favors, paired them with popcorn and red licorice on a patriotic snack board, and even tucked them into a bouquet of other candy treats!
Ingredients:
12 Pretzel Rods
½ cup Red Candy Melts
½ cup White Candy Melts
½ cup Blue Candy Melts
2 tbsp Red, White and Blue Sprinkles
Tip: You can also substitute melted white chocolate instead of candy melts if that’s what you have on hand.
How to Make Firecracker Candy-Coated Pretzels.
Preparation: Line a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. This will be where you lay the dipped pretzels to set.
Melting Candy Melts: Work with one color at a time.
Place ½ cup of candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave at 50% power (or defrost setting) in 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until the candy melts are fully melted and smooth.
It usually takes me about 1-2 minutes total.
Dipping Pretzels: Dip the pretzel sticks into the melted candy, tilting the bowl and using a spoon to help cover the pretzel evenly. Coat about half the length of the pretzel stick.
Gently shake off any excess candy melt before placing the pretzel on the parchment paper.
Adding Sprinkles: While the candy coating is still wet, sprinkle the red, white and blue patriotic sprinkles over the pretzel.
You can sprinkle them by hand or roll the wet, candy-coated section of the pretzel rod in a bowl of sprinkles for fuller coverage.
Setting: Allow the candy-coated pretzel rods to harden completely at room temperature, which should take about 15-30 minutes or pop them in the fridge for about 10 to speed it up.
Serving or Storing: Once they’re set, you’re good to go! Store them in an airtight container at room temp, though honestly, they probably won’t last long.
