I mean… come on. Mozzarella? Basil? Juicy little tomatoes? A splash of balsamic glaze? What'd not to love? It’s basically a tiny Caprese salad dressed up in the cutest costume.

And the best part? These little bites are kid-friendly and adult-approved.

Easy Ladybug Caprese Appetizer.

I whipped up a batch of these for little boy's birthday party and let me tell you, they went down an absolute storm. They only take a few minutes to make and the kids had just as much fun helping make them as they did eating them. Total win!

They’ve got that perfect flavor combo of creamy, salty, fresh and tangy. Plus, finger food always wins at parties. No forks, no fuss, just straight-up snackable kid-friendly finger food.

Ingredients

  • Bocconcini (mini mozzarella balls) or fresh mozzarella, sliced

  • Sea salt (a pinch)

  • Fresh basil leaves

  • 8 cherry tomatoes

  • 4 pitted black olives, quartered

  • Balsamic glaze

Instructions

1. Prepare the Base.

  • Arrange mozzarella slices on a serving platter. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt.

2. Add Basil.

  • Place one fresh basil leaf on top of each cheese slice.

3. Make Ladybug Wings:

  • Cut each cherry tomato in half lengthwise (top to bottom).

  • Carefully make a small slit in the rounded end of each half without cutting all the way through to create the appearance of wings.

4. Assemble the Ladybugs:

  • Place each cherry tomato half (cut side down) on top of a basil leaf.

  • Add a piece of black olive at the front of the tomato half to form the head of the ladybug.

5. Decorate.

  • Use a toothpick or decorating tip to place small dots of balsamic glaze on each tomato to mimic ladybug spots.

Tips

  • Serve at room temperature for the best flavor.

  • Use a sharp knife to slice tomatoes cleanly to avoid squishing them.

  • If you don't have any balsamic glaze you can use black decorating gel or icing instead. Balsamic vinegar would be too runny.

These little ladybugs prove that easy appetizers don’t have to be boring! They’re a fun way to turn simple ingredients into a cute party platter everyone will remember.
